Boiler warranty explained
TL;DR
A boiler warranty covers parts and (usually) labour on manufacturing defects for a fixed period — typically 5-12 years. It's kept valid by (1) installation by a Gas Safe registered engineer, (2) manufacturer registration within 30 days, and (3) an annual service every 12 months, dated and signed. Miss any of those and the warranty voids.
Boiler warranties are one of the biggest reasons people pick a particular brand — and one of the least well understood. "12-year warranty" doesn't mean 12 years of guaranteed free repairs; it means 12 years of manufacturer cover on parts (and sometimes labour) provided you hold up your end.
This page walks through what UK boiler warranties actually cover in 2026, what invalidates them (three reasons account for 90% of rejected claims), the extended and lifetime warranties offered by accredited installer schemes, and how to check the small print before you buy.

What does a standard boiler warranty actually cover?
A standard manufacturer warranty covers the cost of replacing faulty parts (heat exchanger, PCB, gas valve, fan, pump, etc.) and — for most reputable brands — the labour to fit them, for the warranty period. What it does NOT cover:
- Damage from dirty system water (sludge, limescale, corrosion)
- Damage from frost or freezing (condensate pipes, external pipework)
- Damage from third-party parts (non-OEM replacements)
- Fair wear items (seals, gaskets after excessive use)
- Consequential damage to your home (a leak from the boiler damaging a ceiling)
- Anything caused by missed annual servicing
What voids a boiler warranty?
Three things account for almost every rejected claim in the UK: no annual service, no magnetic system filter (or no evidence the system was flushed at install), and non-Gas Safe repair work. Fix those and you'll never have a warranty claim rejected.
- Missing an annual service by more than 30 days — instant invalidation
- Third party or DIY work on a gas appliance (not just voids warranty — it's a criminal offence)
- System water hardness or contamination outside manufacturer spec
- No magnetic filter fitted at install (Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal all require this now)
- Boiler registered late (manufacturer allows 30 days from install)
- Non-OEM spare parts fitted by a non-approved engineer
What are extended and accredited installer warranties?
Manufacturers offer extra years of warranty when their boilers are installed by an accredited engineer or company. Worcester Bosch's Accredited Installer scheme, Vaillant's Advance scheme and Ideal's Max Accredited scheme all boost the standard 5-7 year warranty to 10-12 years — at no extra cost to you, provided the installer is on the scheme.
This is worth serious money over the life of the boiler: 5 extra years of parts and labour cover, from a company that knows the manufacturer's exact fault codes. Always ask an installer whether they're accredited by the brand they're quoting.
Which brands offer the longest UK warranties in 2026?
Standard warranties (as offered on a standard install), longest to shortest, in the North West market right now:
- Worcester Bosch 8000 Style — up to 12 years via Accredited Installer
- Viessmann Vitodens 100-W — up to 12 years via Trained Installer
- Baxi 800 iHT — up to 10 years standard
- Vaillant ecoTEC plus — up to 10 years via Advance
- Ideal Logic Max — up to 10 years via Max Accredited
- Alpha Evoke — 8 years standard
- Glow-worm Energy — 7 years standard
Do I get a new warranty if my boiler is repaired?
The part fitted comes with its own 12-month guarantee (from us, on parts and labour) but this doesn't extend the boiler's original warranty. If your Worcester 8000 is in year 8 of a 12-year warranty and we fit a new fan, the fan is covered by us for a year and by the remaining 4 years of the original manufacturer warranty. Repair work by a Gas Safe registered engineer using OEM parts never invalidates the manufacturer warranty.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Contact the manufacturer directly — they need to send their own engineer or authorise us to attend under warranty. You'll need proof of installation date, proof of every annual service (Benchmark book), and photographs of the fault. We can handle the entire claim process on your behalf if we installed the boiler, and we regularly do.
Typical prices
Real-world ranges from recent Northwest jobs. Your final price is confirmed in writing before any work starts.
| Item | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New boiler with 10-year manufacturer warranty | 2,600 – 3,800 | Standard price — no warranty premium |
| New boiler with 12-year accredited warranty | 2,700 – 4,100 | £100-£300 more, huge value |
| Annual service (keeps warranty valid) | 85 – 120 | Do NOT skip this |
| Warranty claim handling on your behalf | 0 | Free for boilers we installed |
| System filter retrofit (warranty condition) | 180 – 260 | One-off cost |
| Water sample test (evidence for claim) | 40 – 60 | Manufacturer sometimes demands this |
Which brand should you fit?
The gap between "5-year standard" and "12-year accredited" warranty on the same boiler is usually just paperwork — the installer has to be on the manufacturer's scheme. Always ask before you commit. KJ Plumbers is accredited with Worcester Bosch and Vaillant so we can offer their full extended warranties on new installs. We install and service Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Viessmann and Alpha — none of them pay us commission and we don't push a "boiler of the month".
