Warrington's plumbing profile changes as you move outward. Central WA1/WA2 is Victorian terracing built for wire, tanning and soap workers — cast-iron soil stacks, imperial copper distribution and a lot of back-boiler conversions still coming out. The 1970s–90s estates in Westbrook, Great Sankey (WA5) and Birchwood (WA3) were built quickly on old MoD and industrial land and use plastic push-fit distribution behind stud walls; they age unevenly and often show up as pinhole leaks at hidden elbows. In the affluent southern belt — Stockton Heath, Grappenhall and Lymm (WA4/WA13) — the housing includes converted farm buildings and larger detached homes with unvented cylinders, underfloor heating manifolds and, increasingly, air source heat pump retrofits. Because Warrington sits on the transition between the soft West Pennine supply and the harder Cheshire aquifer, limescale is a real design consideration here — heat exchangers, TMVs and shower cartridges genuinely benefit from a softener in a way they don't in Liverpool.
