Make it safe — before anything else
Unplug at the socket
Standing water plus a live socket at floor level is a genuine risk. Kill the power dry-handed first.
Isolate the supply
Blue lever valve under the sink where the dishwasher feed tees off the cold water. Quarter-turn across = off.
Lift kick-plates and mop
Water hides behind the kitchen kick-plate. Pop the clips, mop underneath — kitchen cabinets rot from the bottom up.
Don't force the door

Common causes of a dishwasher leak
Perished fill hose or aquastop failure
Rubber inlet hoses last 8 – 10 years then start weeping at the connections. Aquastop hoses have an integral valve that fails and needs replacing whole.
Blocked or cracked waste hose
Grease and food residue clog the waste hose loop and water backs up and drips at the joint. Sometimes cracks from being pinched behind the machine.
Leaking under-sink Y-piece
The joint where the dishwasher waste connects to the sink trap fails or clogs. Common on kitchens installed by non-plumbers.
Door seal failure
Perished rubber door seal lets water splash out during the wash. Appliance repair rather than plumbing.
Isolation-valve drip
Old isolators weep from the spindle. Often the leak that gets blamed on the dishwasher is actually the valve above.
